Horseback riding is a calorie burner within itself, it takes hard work and discipline to succeed, but it also take physical and mental ability. So aside from riding, it is important to stay in shape and eat right; be kind to your body! Together we can have a healthy and happy summer, but first we’re gonna need some killer workout classes and at home workouts.
Classes:
Need someone to yell at you and tell you to do better that isn’t your riding trainer? Here are some classes for that!
Boxing - Boxing is a great and very hard workout. It exercises just about the whole body but especially the arms and core, which is a very worked area in horseback riding. Aside from the fact boxing keeps you in amazing shape, muscles and all, it is also fun! Who doesn’t love to punch things once and awhile and feel like a total Girl Boss, or Guy Boss.

Crossfit - Cross Fit is under high intensity workouts with boxing, and is also going to leave you sore and hurting in a good way. Crossfit combines a mixture of workout moves, as well as equipment, then multiples the hard level by twenty!
Movement classes - Looking to spice up your workout by adding a few fun twists and turns; combining dance moves and exercise might be for you. This exercises about every part of your body but especially your legs and arms. Sou
lcycle also falls somewhat under this category considering how they incorporate music and moves while biking.
Pilates - as a horseback rider, our hip flexors and hamstrings are very tight, unusually tight, pilates is a great low intensity workout that stretches while teaches you how to use your core while exercising.
Pure Barre - Pure barre focuses especially on your seat muscles and inner and outer thighs, which riders exercise daily. Usually inner thigh can be hard to exercise, but pure barre hits just the right spots using small movements and ballet bars. Socks and leggings are required, and socks with grips help to prevent falling.
Do it on your own! Buying classes can be time consuming and very costly, so these three workouts are really easy to do, it just requires some motivation.
Hiking - walking up and down hills sounds very simple and not anything like a killer workout, but can actually burn up to 300 an hour. Adding a moderate incline and increasing the pace can make those number go up. The view and possibility of taking your dog is just another bonus.
Running - ew. I personally cannot run, even if I'm late and need to sprint to the ring, I will not. It's hard and it stinks for me considering this is one of the easiest workouts to do. Easy meaning if you're lucky you can walk outside and do it. Running can burn up to 600 an hour, depending on pace. What goes along with this is running stairs, which is a great leg workout.
Swimming - Swimming laps or treading water burns an unbelievable amount of calories and is a low intensity workout. It’s perfect for after a long ride because the water is cooling and the exercise is easy.
Biking - biking around your neighborhood or even mountain biking can be a great workout class similar to soul cycle, but outside in the fresh air! Just make sure to use the proper equipment and wear a helmet. The faster you go the more calories go with it!
